# Open USD vs USDC

**OUSD and USDC have different issuers and integration paths.** Choose based on the operation and account access you need, not the shared dollar denomination.

| Question | OUSD | USDC |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Issuer](https://openusd.dev/guides/concepts/#issuer) | Bridge Building Inc. | Circle. |
| Networks | Base, Ethereum, Solana, Tempo at launch. | Multiple networks; use Circle’s current contract directory. |
| Direct [mint/redemption](https://openusd.dev/guides/concepts/#minting-and-redemption) access | Provider onboarding; see [OUSD paths](https://openusd.dev/start/). | Qualified businesses can apply for Circle Mint. |
| Developer resources | Provider-specific docs; access varies by product. | Smart contracts, developer services, CCTP, and a testnet faucet. |
| Reserve reporting | Open Standard points to Bridge’s monthly [attestation](https://openusd.dev/guides/concepts/#attestation) portal; no report reviewed here. | Circle publishes reserve disclosures and monthly third-party assurance. |

## What changes in code?

Keep the [token address](https://openusd.dev/guides/concepts/#token-address), network, [decimals](https://openusd.dev/guides/concepts/#decimals), and provider product explicit. Do not replace a symbol string and assume the route still works. [Native and bridged tokens](https://openusd.dev/guides/concepts/#native-and-bridged-tokens) may have different identifiers and support.

Check the exact accepted-token list for payment products. Stripe’s launch announcement explicitly includes OUSD acceptance, while its detailed token list omits OUSD. Read the [unresolved source conflict and account checks](https://openusd.dev/providers/stripe/#accept-payments) before treating either asset as a checkout option.

## USDC-to-OUSD implementation checklist

1. **Resolve the exact token on each network.** Replace contract or mint allowlists deliberately, not just the ticker. Use [Base](https://openusd.dev/networks/base/#ousd-address), [Ethereum](https://openusd.dev/networks/ethereum/#ousd-address), [Solana](https://openusd.dev/networks/solana/#ousd-address) or [Tempo](https://openusd.dev/networks/tempo/#ousd-address), and keep USDC history under its original asset ID.
2. **Check amount precision and balance reads.** Query the deployed decimals/program and preserve integer or exact-decimal accounting. Wallet-provider cents and token base units are different interfaces. Use the [read-only Solana example](https://openusd.dev/networks/solana/#read-only-balance) or [EVM example](https://openusd.dev/networks/ethereum/#read-only-balance) before changing formatting.
3. **Approve custody and funding routes.** Identify who controls transfers, which customers may hold the asset, and the exact deposit instructions. An OUSD holding option can still require USDC funding. Read [custody](https://openusd.dev/guides/custody-ousd/) and [holding OUSD](https://openusd.dev/guides/hold-ousd/).
4. **Confirm the delivered asset.** Recheck checkout acceptance, payout recipient currency, supported networks, fees and account access. [Sending payouts from OUSD](https://openusd.dev/guides/send-payouts/) may deliver fiat or USDC; a stored OUSD balance does not settle this question.
5. **Plan the cutover.** Inventory wallets, deposit routes and pending transfers; pause activity, let in-flight work finish, convert approved balances and handle late USDC deposits. Use the [conversion workflow](https://openusd.dev/guides/convert-ousd/) and [Bridge’s provider-specific migration steps](https://openusd.dev/providers/bridge/#convert-ousd). Verify the reverse route before relying on rollback.
6. **Reconcile before reopening.** Retain old and new provider references, exact amounts, fees and destination credits. Exercise [duplicates, timeouts and failed operations](https://openusd.dev/guides/integration-architecture/#worked-failure-sequence). Sandbox success does not establish a production OUSD route or settlement.

Circle’s [USDC developer resources](https://developers.circle.com/stablecoins/what-is-usdc) and [Bridge’s migration guide](https://apidocs.bridge.xyz/migrating-to-ousd) describe different products; neither makes them drop-in substitutes. This checklist is application-design guidance, not an executed migration.

## Compare terms separately

Ask your provider about fees, account eligibility, redemption, and [settlement](https://openusd.dev/guides/concepts/#finality-and-settlement) timing. An issuer’s mint/redemption terms do not cover every network, bank, FX, or service fee. Rewards eligibility is also separate from the ability to hold or transfer a token.

For other issuer and access models, compare [OUSD with USDG](https://openusd.dev/guides/open-usd-vs-usdg/) or [USDT](https://openusd.dev/guides/open-usd-vs-usdt/).

This is an integration comparison, not a recommendation to buy or hold either asset. Missing reporting in this review is not evidence that reserves are absent.
